BIRDS IN THE TRAP: Experimental typography
Goal: The goal of this project was to design and develop online album covers (Spotify album cover size) for a musician, composer or band of choice. The covers were intended to evoke the feeling of each individual song contained within the body of music/album. Album covers are usually designed for the entirety of an album and reflects the overall album but for this project, each song was required to have it’s own album cover in order to capture the true sense of each individual song.
Concept: My concept for this project was to focus on Travis Scott’s second studio album, Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight. The album was dedicated to his family & friends in Missouri City, Texas, who felt that they were stuck in a societal trap. The songs contained on this album have unique and recognizable style to them. The use of mellow beats, flowing vocals and soft auto tune, makes each song have a psychedelic feel to them. I wanted to capture that feeling with the use of a bold color palette, a striking typeface & distorted graphics.
