ALRIGHT.

ALRIGHT: Poster DESIGN

Goal: The objective for this project was to listen to or look at a Hip-Hop artist who is using their art form to vocalize and visualize social justice issues in their communities. This project was intended to promote awareness to a social justice issue that the artist makes evident in their craft. The main objective for this project was to create a digitally rendered print poster to promote a social justice issue. From doing research about the artist and social justice issues, to where the artist is coming from with their concerns, successfully raising awareness of a specific issue was the main goal for this project.

Concept: My creative concept for this project was to focus on Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy winning hit song, Alright, which speaks volumes about injustice and police brutality in Compton, California. Lamar is known for his innovative style and lyrics focusing on social justice issues in Southern California. He really goes into detail (through his music) about what is means to be an African-American man, living in Compton, and as a listener, it opens your eyes and ears to a new perspective and sound. I decided to use a bold and heavy typeface in order to captivate the target audience along with the use of a graphic photograph, in order to bring context to this piece.
